Building Literacy in the Presentational and Interpersonal Modes

The relationship and the importance of the connection of writing to reading and speaking will be addressed by highlighting the use of an authentic text in the interpretive, interpersonal and presentational modes. Then, participants will engage in and discuss evidence-based practices for teaching writing using strategies that involve inquiry, elaboration, summarizing, revision and editing. Interpersonal strategies that require learners to negotiate meaning while increasing fluency, complexity of text and accuracy will be addressed. Feedback strategies for both modes will be discussed.
